Broad Street Run
There are so many people who love the Broad Street Run.
I am not one of them.
I’ve run the race a few times and haven’t had any luck there, so I probably won’t go back. But just because I’m not a fan, doesn’t mean it doesn’t hold dear to so many others.
It’s a big race and because of that, there’s lots to consider…
So here’s a good ol’ rundown of what to expect and how to get the most outa the race. Oh, and before I forget, good luck to Shannon and Tim who are ready for big races!
Warm Weather Races
I’m on Threads - not really sure why - but that’s a different story. I found something from Katherun26.2 that I’m sharing below, especially if you have a warm race coming up (hello summer).
1. Hydrate in the days leading up and on race morning/in the race
2. Be conservative out of the gate
3. Stay as cool as possible during the race. Dumping a cup of water over your head, few clothing layers, sweat-wicking materials
4. Anti-chafe on every area that has ever chafed you on a run in the past
5. Be proud of all the work you put into your training cycle - fitness compounds!
All-Time # 2 ✌️
The Penn Relays were this weekend and boy oh boy were there some great races. Yes, times are faster than they’ve ever been. Ever. But the competition was fierce across all of the races! From 4xmiles down to HS miles, the times and performances were great.
Everything I got to see was great and the overall product was… not on television. I had to wait for flotrack or NBC or whomever to put them up on YouTube. Imagine not being able to watch the Sixers playoff game and if you did want to watch it, you had to pay a ton of money for it and watch each quarter of the game from different platforms.
It’s a shame that our sport isn’t pulled together better. I am a diehard fan of the sport and I seek out opportunities to watch meets live. But I’m not going to spend every dollar I (barely) make as a teacher subscribing to and paying for niche coverages of meets.
Luckily, we may be on the verge of a better product with Michael Johnson and company who are starting a track and field league. More to come, obviously.
Imagine crossing that finish line with a new personal best, the exhilaration pulsing through your veins as you realize your hard work has paid off. That's not just a dream—it's within your reach, and I'm here to help you make it a reality.
