Making the Most of Virtual Racing

We have to keep the motivation up; virtual racing is here to stay

First, I’d like to say thank you for the feedback from last week’s newsletter. I was hesitant to even talk about it because I am a running coach, not a political person. Hell, I didn’t know anything about politics until 2016.

I had every intention of writing about my time trial I ran with Chris and Sam on Father’s Day. That was supposed to be the focal point, but then I got ambushed by an old-ass lady.

If you didn’t see/hear/read about it on social, I can summarize it pretty simply: I ran a sub-5 minute mile in 18 different calendar years. I had help - Chris did an amazing job of pulling me through (and it was a bit downhill) - but I’ve also worked really hard: I ran a lot of miles, did the speed work, ate well, got sleep when it was time to sleep…

Those are things that really benefited me when it came time to toe the line. What also helped was what I wrote about in this week’s blog post: how to run your best virtual race.

I know that these are insanely difficult times we’re living through. And since the rest of the fall calendar has been pretty much wiped clean, I know that if you want to continue training, you’ll need some kind of motivation to keep the miles coming.

That’s where time trials and virtual runs come into play.

Friday’s Action Plan:

Lace up for a virtual 2-mile time trial and do your best to keep socially distant during Holiday festivities. We DO NOT want to go back to quarantine!
