Don’t tell my wife, but I have three pairs of running shoes that I regularly run in.
I use them for different types of training and each has a purpose.
Though I don’t run a lot of miles per week (or ever really), changing up what shoes I wear has kept me healthy.
For those of you who don’t know, I spent my first four years of college on a Villanova track scholarship, where Nike sponsored us. That meant Nike shoes, spikes, and gear. Then in grad school at George Mason, Asics sponsored the team. That transition was probably the hardest because I only had 9 months to adjust to new training and new shoes. Let’s just say it didn’t go as smoothly as I would have liked.
Upon returning home and joining the now-defunct Haddonfield Running Company store team, sponsored by Brooks, I became a Brooks running shoe addict.
Brooks does not sponsor me, but I really wish they did. That being said, I typically train in Brooks running shoes only.
But just because I run in one brand of shoes doesn’t mean that you’re going to. I have found that Brooks running shoes are the best ones for my running needs. You might have different needs and that’s totally cool.
My Every Day Trainer
I love the Brooks Launch as an everyday run shoe. It’s got great feel underfoot and you can seriously do all your runs in this shoe. For me, it’s light, but not too light. Sturdy, but not too sturdy. And has
My Recovery Run Shoe
When I was training for my first marathon, I was so injury-prone that I had a string of seasons where I only wore a bulky, heavy training shoe. I don’t know if that was why I was injured or if it helped me get over those string of injuries, but I’ve kept the shoe and just decreased how often I wear it.
The Brooks Levitate is that shoe. Think of it like a Cadilac. Big ride, big cushion.
Now, this shoe is my recovery run shoe. Consider it my “I just need to log miles at any pace” shoe. I typically don’t do anything fast or long in this shoe anymore, but it doesn’t mean I can’t or won’t.
Fast Run Shoes
The last pair of shoes in my rotation right now is the Brooks Revel. It’s fast, light, and considered a racing flat. It is absolutely not an everyday trainer. In my new life as a triathlon athlete, I’ve even switched out the laces for “quick tie” laces and I don’t even tie the shoes anymore.
Where To Buy
Links to all three of my shoes are here on Amazon, however, I strongly suggest that you go to a running store to use their services to pick out the shoes that work best for you.
The stores that I strongly suggest are from trusted friends of mine: SJ Running Co (Haddonfield, etc), Runner’s High/TheOutpost Running, and North Whales Running Co.
