After what felt like an eternity of barely running and each step feeling worse than the last, my body finally said ‘Stop fuckin’ running’.
At first, the pain in my hamstring was uncomfortable, then it was unbearable, then finally, after 2 trips to Dr. Andrew Gross (Gross Sports Chiropractic) I was able to get back to some form of “pain-free” running.
Then, after thinking I was in the clear and I could resume training and maybe even add in some workouts, my right calf, which has given me plenty of trips to sports doctors is testing me to see if I’ll go again. I will.
This is all to say we - me and you and even you who reads this in a few weeks - should continue to take care of our bodies. Give yourself the time you need to rest and recover after a hard workout. And more importantly, get the treatment you need before it becomes an 8-10 week thing.
Racing Updates
Congratulations are going out to Shannon for a successful 10k at the Philly 10k this weekend. She’s setting herself up for a great Berlin Marathon.
Congrats to Joan at her North Jersey Masters race 2 weeks ago. She is gearing up for the Marine Corps Marathon at the end of October.
Remember that you don’t have to train for a race all on your own. I write training programs for any kind of runner - whether you’re looking to qualify for Boston or run your first 5k. I’m here to help you run your best.
Unsolicited Running Advice
It’s very easy to over analyze each run you do. Was the pace too fast? Too slow? My heart rate, where was it? Am I pushing too much, not enough?
You can ask yourself a million questions and find yourself more confused than you have answers.
And when you are able to quiet all that chatter, you’ll find that running is actually pretty simple. As long as you can take the good with the bad and just enjoy running, then everything will work out.
Bad workout? No big deal.
Ran a bit quicker today because you were feeling good? Great. The next day or two should be easy.
When you have that quiet confidence, like Tim has right now, it’s scary how good things can get. Tim wrote this great post and whether you are firing on all cylinders or not, it’s a good read.
Help Me Decide
Which of the following do you think describes TrainwithMarc the best?
The 🌎 Stage
If you’re not a track and field fan (I know that track isn’t the easiest sport to follow or even watch, for that matter), then you missed out on the World Champs.
Here are a few of my favorite races:
Now keep in mind, there are plenty of other races worth sharing, like the women’s 10k, the 4x100s, the 1500 for the women, both 5k races… You decide where you’d like to go, because to be honest, they were all great races.
Community Running
Carly and I are no longer the Healthy Kids coordinators for Haddonfield/Cherry Hill, but that doesn’t mean a great series isn’t going to happen. The new coordinators are great and the race series is about to open up registration. If you have a little, consider signing up.
Thanks as always for reading. If you have anything or anyone you want to me write about, send me an email.
I look forward to growing alongside you as we embark on what could be shaping up to be a great fall!
