Hello everyone!
Our minds are a very powerful tool. They can be used to self-sabotage or they can be used to overcome serious obstacles. I’ve done a bit of reading/listening to Carol Dweck - the leader in Growth Mindsets vs Fixed Mindsets and how they are related to students in the classroom. I know that those students who think they can learn math are more likely to actually learn it. If we can get 6th graders to like math, imagine what we could do with runners who already like running!
Like I wrote in this week’s blog post - Adapting to a Growth Mindset - I looked at what we (runners) can do to boost our performance. And how do we do it?
With a growth mindset.
Here’s how to have a growth mindset in running:
1) Look at a new race on the calendar as an opportunity instead of a burden.
2) Accept struggle, failure, and setbacks as part of the sport.
3) Embrace hard work, putting in effort, and accepting negative criticism
Armed with these possibilities, we can go out and make conscious decisions to live in a growth mindset. When we do that, our potential is limitless.
