I am a lone wolf runner.
I can run by myself every day for the next year and be totally cool with that. Of those solo runs that I take, 50-60% of them I listen to podcasts, 10% of the time I listen to music, and the rest of the time it’s just me and my thoughts.
I’m comfortable by myself; I get a lot of thinking and planning done. I don’t need motivation to run faster or longer - I’ve got that part down.
But when Tim asked if I wanted to join in on some Thursday morning runs, I said yes, naturally. Even though I like running by myself, and for the most part I do run solo, I can’t pass up an opportunity to run with people.
Even as “motivated” as I am, it’s still hard AF to get a long run done on a weekday, which has become my thing. I think for me at least, it’s easier to run long and “slow” before 6 am than it is to run longer and faster (workouts) on a weekday.
Knowing the dads will be there [we now have a group of 5-7 dads who show up every Thursday for the run] gets me out the door.
We talked a lot this week about the community we’ve formed. Guys from 4-5 different towns all connect Thursday mornings to get a run in together. It’s awesome.
We might have given ourselves a team name already, which to not embarrass ourselves, I won’t say until we have a full line of sweet, sweet merch.
However you sweat, whether it’s by yourself or with your gang of outlaws and misfits, I give you props for getting it done.
For some added bonus, I’m leaving you with a few podcasts that I typically listen to on my runs lately.
I’d love for you to share some of your faves! You can leave a comment, send me an email, or share on social media. Bonus points if it’s a mini-series, like The Raven.
Favorite Podcasts to Listen to on the Run
*I have 2 main ways I listen to podcasts while running…
My very old Shuffle. Since Apple headphones - of any kind - don’t stay in my ears - at all, ever - I have Bluetooth over the ear headphones. I purchased an adapter that plugs into the shuffle that turns it into a Bluetooth capable device (it’s the same size as the shuffle itself). The link to the device is here.
My Garmin watch connects to those same headphones. I have the 255 Music which allows me to have Amazon Music, podcasts through RunCast, and music stored on my watch. The link to my watch is here.
