The Benefits of Finding Friends to Do Track Workouts With
Finding friends to exercise with can increase motivation levels and help you get the most out of your workout.
Running can be a solitary sport, but finding friends to do track workouts with can have many benefits.
I’ve recently been doing some coaching at the track and even as a coach, it’s motivating to see the joint effort of the ladies picking up their paces because they are pushing each other.
In today’s post, I’m breaking down why running with partners is super beneficial for making track workouts easier, faster, and downright better.
Here are some reasons why running with others can make you a better runner:
Accountability
When you have friends who are counting on you to show up for a workout, you're more likely to stick to your training plan. Knowing that you have a group of people waiting for you can be a powerful motivator to get out of bed early - if you run early - and get to the track after work if that’s how you roll.
Not only that, but having a friend push you in practice will keep you on pace when your mid-workout motivation sags.
Competition
Running with others can help you push yourself to run faster and harder. When you're running with a group, you may find yourself trying to keep up with the person in front of you or trying to stay ahead of the person behind you. This healthy competition can help you improve your speed and endurance.
More than competition, but seeing what friends do - like warmup drills, striders, or prepping for workout - helps you become a better workout.
Support
Running with a group can provide you with the emotional support you need to knock a workout out of the park. When you're struggling during a workout, your friends can encourage you to keep going and you can latch on to them and have them lead the workout. And when you have a successful workout, your friends can celebrate your accomplishments with you.
Variety
Running with others can help you mix up your workouts. Your friends may have different training plans or workout routines than you do, which can help you try new things and keep your workouts interesting.
Since I’ve been coaching, no workout I offer is the exact same. This keeps everyone motivated and keeps them on their toes.
Fun
Finally, running with friends can be fun! When you're running with a group, you can chat, joke around, and enjoy each other's company. Running can be a tough and grueling sport, but having friends to share the experience with can make it more enjoyable.
So, if you're looking to improve your running and have some fun along the way, consider finding friends to do track workouts with. You may be surprised at how much of a difference it can make in your training and your overall enjoyment of the sport.
