I’ve been running for years. How many years? 26 years at this point.
From HS to college, grad school through post-collegiate training. Through marriage, kids, and work. I run.
I run because I love it. I run because I’m good at it. I run because I like the challenge of it.
But I also run because it makes me feel good.
I am not a flashy runner - I don’t need all the bells and whistles to perform at my best. But I do have the things I like and swear by. Here’s that list:
A good pair of Brooks running shoes. I’ve worn Brooks since I started running with the Haddonfield Running Company team - probably back in 2008 or 2009. I just love how they feel underfoot and while I’ve dabbled with a few other pairs in those 16 years, I really just keep coming back to Brooks. Currently, I’m in the Levitate, Launch, Ghost & Hyperion Max 2.
Nike run shorts. Yes, I prefer Nike shorts. I like how they’re cut and how they fit. Again, I’ve had other pairs throughout my years, but nothing fits me like Nike shorts.
I started my running career with a simple Nike chrono watch - all it did was start, stop, and take maybe 35 splits. Good enough for a long track workout and telling time, and that’s about it. It was REAL simple back in the day. From there, I upgraded to that Nike watch where you slap it to take a split. Loved that watch, but it didn’t last long after all the slaps I gave it. From there, Garmin started making watches and I’ve been a Garmin fan through at least 3 pairs.
I definitely don’t go anywhere without sunglasses. Any season, any time of day, any occasion. I love sunglasses. I’m a huge fan of both Tifosi and Goodr for their quality and price point of sporty and fashionable sunnies.
Bananas. This is a simple training staple. I probably love bananas more than any kid I know. I like them a day after they turn green. Call me a Day 4 kinda guy.
I run mostly outdoors, but as I’ve gotten older, I also go worse at cross training and strength training. Lucky for me, my wife is a gym rat and we went full on bougie and have been at Lifetime Gym for a while. They have everything I need to supplement my training.
Last but not least, I have become attached to my scraping tools. I got the 3-set that has different weights and angles and I’ve used it everywhere from my arches and calves to my IT bands and scapula. Totally a good purchase here.
