It’s race week(end)-ish for me!
While this isn’t an A race for me, I’m still treating it like it’s important. Shockingly, this will be my first race in 2022. I am using this weekend’s race as a rust buster and I’ll see where it puts me fitness-wise so I can fine-tune my workouts as I am for a mile under 5 minutes.
In the last 3 or so weeks, these are the things I have been doing that will help me on race day:
long runs have been increasing in distance and pace
workouts have been varied and increasing in distance
strength training has improved and increased in frequency
sleep has improved
stress has drastically gone down
So all that’s left to do is have a great weekend of easy running before my Monday(?!?!) race.
Here’s a quick recap of my training over the last 2 weeks:
Week of June 20th:
54 min long run
12 x 400 @ paces ranging from 4:40-6:30
Week of June 27th:
LR 59 minutes, 7.3 miles over hills
5 x 800 @ 6:00-6:15 pace w/ :35 seconds rest, 5 x 200 in 38s with 1:20 jogs
Last week, I wrote about Challenge Hound and the challenges I set up… I see that only Tim and I have registered (and that’s probably because I specifically chatted with him about it on a 50-minute run. Besides that, none of you (including my non-Strava, non-Garmin-wearing wife) signed up for the challenge. I edited it and removed the $5, so now it’s a completely free-to-you challenge. It takes 2 minutes to set up and then we can “compete” to see who can rack up the most elevation and run the fastest mile during the month. Don’t let the coach be the only person who signs up!
Here’s the link to the mile and here’s the link to elevation.
FYI: I host a track camp for kiddos, 2nd grade through 8th grade at Cinnaminson HS. Take a look and if you know someone who’d be interested, share the camp’s info with them! You can find info here: TrainwithMarc.com/Cinnaminson-Track-Field-Academy
Friday’s Action Plan:
Challenge yourself by stepping out of your comfort zone. Use friends as motivators to push yourself to new adventures.
