It’s going to be a Magical Weekend 🏳️🌈 (Disney reference).
Olympic Marathon Trials
The Marathon Olympic Trials are here (well, not here, here, but this weekend here) and not here, here as in NJ, but in Orlando, Florida.
The only thing more confusing than that last sentence is USATF’s ruling on how to qualify for the Olympic Games in the marathon.
And you only didn’t know that if you were living under a proverbial rock. In which case, for the Tracy’s out there (Smartless reference), here’s a quick guide to get you “in the know”.
Via Citius Mag:
The women’s race begins at 10:20 a.m. E.T. on Saturday, February 3. If you can’t make it to Orlando in person, you can follow along at home with race tracking and live results online. The races will be streamed live on Peacock (subscription required) beginning 10:00 a.m. E.T. and then broadcast (on a tape delay) on NBC at 12:00 p.m. the same day.
We’re rooting for local qualifier, Kev McDonnell who qualified for this year’s Trials by way of his 2:17 at the Chicago Marathon.
There is so much information out about the trials. I really hope that if you take the time to read this (lovely) newsletter every week, you’ll tune in to watch tomorrow’s marathons.
Short Track
In other news, I’m very happy for one of my first Cinnaminson kids - he was in 8th grade way back in 2016, Austin Gabay He’s now at Duke University for what seems like his 10th year of college (Covid will do that to your eligibility) and ran an 8:01 for 3k (that’s coming through 1500 in 4:00 (or 1600 in 4:17) and continuing for basically another mile).
He’s number 2 all-time in Duke history and shockingly, 44 other collegiate guys have already run faster. He’s currently 45th in the country (NCCA only). Usually, the top 16 athletes in each event make the championships, so he has some work to do to make nationals.
For context, Austin graduated high school with a 3200 PR of 9:00, which is like an 8:22 for 3k. So in his college career, he’s lopped off 21 seconds.

What I’m Exploring
What’s next for TrainwithMarc? Hopefully global domination. But if not, then I’ll “settle” for coaching more runners.
With the help of Bridget, she told me about Garmin Clipboard. This arm of Garmin allows me to create (running) workouts and sync them to your watch for you to do the workout. Workouts can be simple (tempo run) or elaborate (mixing paces and recoveries). I’ve pushed this out to a few of my runners already and as we move into 2024, I’m hopeful that I’ll add it as a service that I offer.
Want to try it out? Send me a message or email and I will get you started.
