Hello, and thank for joining me this Friday.
At least, I think it’s Friday. It doesn’t feel like a Friday. In fact, I don’t even know what day it feels like anymore.
I’m sure you’re probably going through a similar situation.
Some of us, if we had a really crazy, busy week, couldn’t WAIT for Friday. Now, does it really even matter? I now get excited when I put on a pair of jeans (hey, it’s the small things).
I had a really big goal of trying to run 12 races this year - ranging from the mile and trying to break 5 minutes to running some different race distances: 5k, 8k, 10k, half marathon, trail races, etc. I wanted to put myself out there and hold myself accountable with some focused training and racing, even if I wasn’t in “great” shape.
But now that races are canceled or postponed until the fall at the earliest, I’m training, but not really sure what for. Day in and day out, the grind is what I’m really good at - but this is different. It feels foreign.
A few weeks ago, I had said I wanted to time trial a 5-miler and I feel guilty for bailing on it. Finn hasn’t been a good sleeper and I used it as an excuse to not “go to the well” and compromise myself.
That being said, I still want 12 good, hard efforts. I’m hoping - fingers crossed - that one of those efforts comes this weekend.
So I’m asking you: how has your training changed since Covid? Do you struggle like I do? What’s been tough? What has made running easier (if anything)?
