I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Whether you turkey trotted or didn’t, I hope running is going well for you.
Today’s post is not going to have the jam-packed info like most do, but instead, it’ll be a celebration of running that all my friends have done recently.
As a reminder, if you have something you’d like me to cover, send me an email at any point and I’ll do a deep dive into the topic!
If you haven’t considered a training plan with me for your upcoming season, what are you waiting for?! Now is the time to connect with me and get started. I won’t have very many spots available in the new year, so be sure to sign up before December 2nd to ensure you are guaranteed a spot on my roster.
Racing Updates
The big race for us was Philly Half Marathon as Carly lined up with two of her girlfriends. While most race entry fees are only monetary, Carly had a side bet on the line which she fell 20 seconds short of winning. Can’t win them all, Carly!
Congrats go out to current TrainwithMarc runners, Catelyn and Ruliann for their 13.1 races and Alan for crushing his marathon goal, running 3:46:58.
In weeks prior, we’ve had Tim finish in the top 7 of a competitive 5k. Unfortunately, his season ended after this race instead of Rothman 8k due to sickness. Still, a lifetime PR over 13.1 leaves us both feeling really good about 2024.
Lisa had a great half marathon of her own running a Good Day for a Run race. Those races are great because they are intimate in nature, but challenging enough to warrant their respect.
Joan ran a very great race at the Marine Corps Marathon. She’s currently enjoying a break from training.
Rachelle also had a great half marathon and is now enjoying a break from training too!
Up next for most of my runners is a great winter of training. In this week’s blog post, you can check out all the gear I think you’ll need for winter running.
Runner Spotlight
If I’ve done my job well as a coach, eventually the runner will be able to run well on their own. If I’ve given them the knowledge and support they need, then I’ve done what I’m supposed to do.
That being said, some runners, like Shannon, use me for a killer marathon cycle, then run another marathon, then run a half marathon. Like all in 6 weeks of each other. While I’d personally never do that, the challenge is definitely something that piques my interest.
And while I’m excited for Shannon for having such a great fall, we also know that we can accomplish so much more and that’s why she’ll be back in 2024 for more TrainwithMarc coaching.
Tips and Advice
Even when you have your peak race on the calendar, sometimes things come up - like kid vomit - that’ll keep you from even the most important race.
And while I think it’s okay to run even if you know you’re not at your best, I also think it’s gutsy and wise to pull the plug early on a season that has run it’s course.
That’s just what had to happen for Tim who had a good thing rolling until a few poorly timed kid germies rolled through his house.
Don’t get us wrong, we’re both bummed that he couldn’t race, but he and I both know that there will be plenty of other races on a future calendar.
