Summer is right around the corner.
Ask any teacher what their "countdown" number is and you know that warm weather and sunshine are within grasp.
That being said, it's time to start thinking about what your training plans are going to look like once it gets officially hot AF out.
Whether you're brand new to running or getting the shoes out for year number 20, it's important to have a solid plan in place to help you reach your training - or life - goals.
Today we're going to explore tips for summer training.
In order to have a really good summer of running, I suggest you start sooner rather than later. Having a base behind you will help you when you go to add more oomph to your running.
Ease into fitness. A little bit daily beats a ton in one day and lots of time off. Focus on shorter, easier effort days as these will gradually become longer and bigger days.
Summer running leans heavily on effort-paced runs because heat and humidity play mean tricks on how you feel while out on your run.
Stay hydrated. You can't be at your best if you're not properly hydrating. That means doing your best at sticking with water as opposed to booze.
Strength work works. Even if you do a little bit daily throughout the week, it will pay off in terms of durability, running economy, and sustainability.
Summer training is predicated on being smart and strategic with how and when you train. You want to avoid injury, for sure, so you can be at your best in the fall racing season when temps regulate again. So take a deep breath, get out there and run strong!

Friday’s Action Plan
Find early risers to help you get your running done early.
Quote of the Week:
You dream. You plan. You reach. There will be obstacles. There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But with hard work, with belief, with confidence and trust in yourself and those around you, there are no limits.
